Jeremy and I had many-many adventures this weekend, and for the first time in separate states! Obviously I’ll have to go to work soon, so we’ll write with more details later, but we went for hikes and motorcycle rides, catered a baby shower, attended an Iron Sharpens Iron seminar, and had sushi for the first time. It was a good weekend, although a little rushed for both of us.
It is very, very good to be home.

I spent some time tonight experimenting with Prosciutto-wrapped melon for my sister’s baby shower. The instructions online tell you to wrap a piece of Prosciutto di Parma around a chunk of melon and “secure with a toothpick.” I don’t like to “secure with a toothpick,” because the plain ones are so blah and the frilled ones are so… mmm… not my taste. Here’s what Jeremy and I came up with (using ham, can’t get the good Prosciutto around here):
So much better than a toothpick! I much prefer my food to be completely edible. Point of interest - the melon totally drowns out the chive, but if the combination is too weird for you, you can eat the Prosciutto and melon off the chives just like a toothpick.

I’m testing recipes for my sister’s baby shower brunch, and one of the dishes is Eggs Chevre (ingredient combo and egg-knowledge courtesy of Dan Rosenbach, Red Cottage Restaurant, South Dennis, MA - sorry, no website). The thing is, I’m testing Eggs Chevre “for a crowd”, and I’ll be cooking two dozen eggs at once. We are not going to eat two dozen eggs in one night, eggs really aren’t any good reheated, and I don’t want to throw away most of the pan.
So, do any of you in the area want to stop by? The dish consists of scrambled eggs baked in a large pan in the oven and mixed with Chevre cheese and chives. I will be testing cooking time as well as proportions of add-ins. If you like eggs and don’t mind being a guinea-pig, please leave a comment or give us a call and let me know you’re interested. I’m planning on doing this next week (4/13-4/19), probably on a weeknight. It will be informal, paper plates etc so don’t worry about spending all evening here, you can in-and-out it.

This past weekend we had the pleasure of visiting with some “old” friends and some “new” ones, relatively speaking, of course.
For Saturday, we had scheduled Peter and Becky for a visit at our place. It had been months since we had a solid visit, and the last time I had seen Peter was a meetup for lunch in Concord. We had a great time this visit, sharing a delicious meal of cumin-lime chicken and caesar salad, catching up on the goings-on in our lives, and being thoroughly entertained by their beautiful little girl Catherine. They are both doing a fantastic job raising her, and it was fun to have their growing family with us. Peter of course brought his camera and his growing knowledge of photography, and helped us with the final picture we needed for the TrueTech website, on the consulting page. THANK YOU PETER! He also offered to do some couples shots for us, which are sorely lacking in our own gallery, so we’ll be taking him up on that, hopefully during our next visit. Thank you Peter, Becky, and Catherine!
On Sunday, we had yet another family over - Dave and Pam and their two daughters Allison and Anna. I met Dave at Staples, and our common interest in technology and similar personalities resulted in an invite from Dave and Pam to have dinner at their house last summer. We had a great time then, and have been looking forward ever since toward returning the favor. We were able to share a meal of cider-brined chicken and cornbread with maple syrup, and again catch up with how things were going all around. Dave and I spent some time talking technology, which is always fun, the two lovely girls kept everything lively and entertaining as well. They are wonderful people to know, and we were thrilled at our second visit with them. Thank you to Dave, Pam, Allison and Anna!
Sunday afternoon, we were also pleasantly surprised with quick “hello” from John and Laurel, who were out for a walk with their two boys Parker and Tucker. We knew it was them at the door, because they are the only ones who ring the funky little doorbell contraption we have at the backdoor. It had been a few weeks since we had seen them, and it was a nice refresh, even if it was brief. Thanks to John, Laurel, Parker and Tucker for dropping by!
All in all, a very packed weekend it was, and full of friendly fun. We are looking forward to many more visits like these when our house additions are complete. Time with friends is always refreshing. Thanks again to all of you!
Now we are going to nap for a week.

First, I finished almost everything on my To-Do list tonight. The only thing I didn’t do was 1/2 of the exercises for my class, but that’s ok because we don’t start the next chapter until 3/22. And I didn’t do that one thing because I really stretched my brain and over-did the “participate [in] online [class]” item. Stretching one’s brain takes time.
Second, I was over at Andy’s website today, and realized anew that he has some seriously beautiful shots of Taiwan. You can click on Andy to the left.
And speaking of pictures, Peter’s project A Picture A Day for 30 Days is shaping up nicely. You might want to give him a click too. I especially like Stairing contest and Sunset on technology. What’s your fave?

I’m in charge of food for my sister Heather’s baby shower, and my tentative menu includes recipes that I’ve had for a long time but have never actually made, so for the next few weeks I will be running trials.
Jeremy gets nervous when I do stuff like this, because it almost always means buying new kitchen equipment. But can I just say? Since he got me my beautiful KitchenAid two years ago, I’ve had nothing major to buy. She’s beautiful, she sits out on the counter where I can admire her all the time, and she enables me to make so many recipes that would simply be impossible otherwise. Just yesterday I made a perfect batch of meringues in about ten prep-minutes. I had made something that used four egg yolks earlier in the week, so I saved the whites, tossed them in the KitchenAid, added some sugar and chocolate, and just let it go.
Today is a particularly mad-scientist trial day. I’m working on Parmesan crisps. Recipes for this are rather vague, so I’m trying to gauge the exact shade of brown needed to get them crisp. So far I’ve been working with tablespoon-sized mounds of a good-quality cheese. My first efforts were too light and ended up completely bendable. At this stage of cooking, they also turned out quite strong-tasting. The last one I made was crisp around the edges, with a much more mellow flavor there - so I think I’m going to continue in this direction. If it turns out to be a dead end, I’ll try making larger, lighter-colored cheese laces and shaping them around the bottom of a glass. Then we can put some light salad ingredients in the lacey cups - maybe half a cherry tomato, a smidge of lettuce, an olive… colorful things, but I haven’t really thought it out yet. If I do go in that direction, I’m sure my brother Josh (who very kindly agreed to be co-chef) can help me come up with something.
Here’s to playing with your food!

We’ve been meaning to do it for a while now, but we’ve finally linked to Andy. This is our first international link, since Andy is currently living in Taiwan. Andy is brother to Micah and Jessica, also on our Friendly People list - go check him out to the left! He has some pretty sweet pictures of Taiwan, so really, go take a look.

Okay, well it took me a lot longer to go through the pictures than I thought it would. I had to review, sort, de-red-eye, label, and upload over 80 pictures - and that was after deleting more than half right on the camera! I’ve put them here for your viewing pleasure.
I managed to get some pretty good candids. My pride and joy is “Meghan’s big gift” on page five of the album - I actually caught that the first time, it wasn’t a do-over! Heather was kind enough to man our camera while Jeremy and I opened each other’s presents, so those shots are her work.

A belated Merry Christmas to you! Jeremy started a blog about his HTPC yesterday which began with a Christmas greeting, but he never finished the blog and therefore never posted the greeting, hence I send it.
We’re in central New York right now, winding down and packing up after a Christmas visit with my mother. It’s been hectic but fun, with some new additions to the cast of characters, such as Kevin (aka “Doodey head” apparently) the bf of Heather (aka “Poopey”). Kevin and Heather are further known as Dad-and-Mom-to-be.
That’s right! My sister Heather is pregnant! Sometime in May I will become the proud Aunt of a little baby boy or girl.
….And I’m not sure how to segue from that into anything else…..
This year we tackled Christmas with an excellent camera, or at least one that blows our old one out of the ballpark. We took advantage of Christmas sales (and my personal backlash from the health insurance fiasco) and purchased a Cannon SD1000 on Saturday. I spent some time practicing before the big day, so we ended up with some pretty good shots - although, even with practice I’m not much of a photographer! I’ll upload them to the net when we get home today, and they’ll tell much of the story for me.
So here’s to the return of pictures at The Biggs Picture!
We’re sleep-deprived and over-stuffed, and we still have a long drive ahead, so we may not get back here today - but in the meantime I hope you all have plenty of time to ride out the Christmas let-down (or Christmas recovery I guess, depending on how old you are!), and that you enjoyed your holiday.
